Where Community Is More Than a Core Value Nevada State Bank · Las Vegas, NV

Nevada State Bank employees support financial education, volunteer initiatives, and community programs statewide

Nevada has long been shaped by residents who invest their time and energy in the places where they live and work. From rural towns to rapidly growing urban neighborhoods, that tradition remains visible across the Silver State.

For Nevada State Bank, community involvement has been part of its story since the bank opened its first branch in downtown Las Vegas in 1959.

Today, the bank operates 43 branches across more than two dozen Nevada communities. While banking services remain its primary focus, Nevada State Bank is also involved in financial education initiatives, volunteer activities, and nonprofit programs throughout the state. Employees volunteer with organizations, support donation drives, and participate in financial education programs that reach students, families, and community groups.

In 2025, more than 190 Nevada State Bank employees contributed more than 3,300 volunteer hours, while the bank invested more than $650,000 in Nevada communities through charitable contributions, grants, sponsorships, and community programs.

According to Terry Shirey, president and CEO of Nevada State Bank, many of the organization's volunteer and outreach efforts begin with employees who are committed to the places they call home.

"As an organization, we're committed to supporting communities across Nevada, but it's our colleagues who make the difference," Terry said. "From cleaning up Red Rock to collecting canned food, they look for ways to get involved and make a positive impact."

Many of those efforts are coordinated through employee-led groups that organize volunteer opportunities and fundraising campaigns. One longstanding example is the bank's support of the Children's Heart Foundation, including fundraising and participation in the organization's Walk with the Heart of a Child event.

One example is Nevada State Bank's support of Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada's JA Inspiration Center. Opened in 2024, the 40,000-square-foot facility houses JA BizTown and JA Finance Park, immersive learning environments where students explore entrepreneurship, workforce readiness, and personal finance through hands-on experiences.

At JA Finance Park, students apply personal finance concepts through simulations that connect education, career choices, income, and lifestyle decisions. Nevada State Bank maintains a storefront within the facility, where employees regularly volunteer and interact with students as they work through real-world financial scenarios.

Beyond the JA Inspiration Center, employees volunteer throughout the year to help students build practical financial knowledge and understand how financial decisions connect to everyday life.

In addition to supporting financial education programs, employees participate in volunteer opportunities with organizations serving a wide range of community needs.

Among those opportunities are Green Our Planet's Giant Student Farmers Markets, where students sell produce and products developed through their school garden programs while gaining entrepreneurial skills. Nevada State Bank volunteers assist at the events, helping students interact with customers, handle transactions, and bring their products to market.

The bank's branch network also plays a role in community service. Throughout the year, Nevada State Bank locations serve as collection sites for donation drives that support local families and students. Branches have collected donations for Communities In Schools' Fill the Bus school supply campaign and the annual 98.5 KLUC Toy Drive, with donations distributed to local children and families through HELP of Southern Nevada.

"Having branches throughout Nevada gives us an opportunity to connect people with causes that are important in their communities," Terry said.

On Dec. 9, Nevada State Bank will celebrate its 67th anniversary. The bank opened with a single branch in downtown Las Vegas in 1959, long before Nevada's population and economy grew to transform the state. While much has changed over the past six decades, employee volunteerism, financial education, and local philanthropy remain a consistent part of the organization's presence across Nevada.

Whether it's volunteering, supporting a school supply drive, helping at a student farmers market, or collecting holiday donations, these efforts extend Nevada State Bank's presence beyond traditional banking services. Taken together, they illustrate how the organization engages with communities and reflect a longstanding appreciation for the people, organizations, and neighborhoods that make Nevada feel like home.

Holiday Giving Made Easy
