For Markesia and Korey Akinbami, founders of Komar Luxe Design Build & Komar Luxe Realty, that feeling is the point.
Komar Luxe serves clients throughout the Atlanta area, including Smyrna, Vinings and surrounding communities, through real estate, design and construction services. But the team does not describe the company only in terms of buying, selling, building or renovating homes. To them, the work is more personal.
“Every home we create is an intentional build,” Markesia says, “thoughtfully designed from the ground up to support a functional lifestyle, not just to look good in photos.”
A beautiful room may photograph well, but a truly beautiful home has to welcome, work and hold the people who live there in a way that feels easy and lasting. It should support the everyday moments as much as the special ones — the quiet mornings, the full-house gatherings, the ordinary routines that become part of a family’s story.
Markesia often describes the Komar Luxe approach as resort-style living, but not in a flashy way. It is quiet luxury — the kind that reveals itself in the flow of a floor plan, the quality of the materials, the softness of a spa-like bathroom, or the way a backyard becomes part of the home’s everyday rhythm.
It is a home designed to feel like a retreat.
That inspiration came, in part, from Florida.
Before Komar Luxe became what it is today, the team was doing commercial construction work there. In Florida, they noticed homes that reflected a vacation-minded way of living — built for relaxation, gathering, indoor-outdoor connection and everyday enjoyment.
They wanted to bring that same energy to Georgia.
Their construction company, Ducere, had been operating since 2017, but the pandemic helped shape the Komar Luxe brand. When people suddenly found themselves working, living, schooling and gathering under one roof, home took on a different meaning. It became the center of everything.
“It made them realize their home needed to be more than functional,” Korey says. “It needed to be a sanctuary.”
Today, the Komar Luxe process begins with conversation. How do you live in your home now? What do you love? What do you wish felt different? When you travel, what is it about the places you stay that makes you feel most at ease?
Maybe it is natural light. Maybe it is an open kitchen. Maybe it is a bathroom that feels like a spa, or an outdoor space that makes home feel like the destination.
Those answers begin to shape the vision.
“Personal style isn’t about trends,” Markesia says. “It’s about understanding how someone moves through their day and designing a home that supports that effortlessly.”
That is where the creative side of homebuilding begins to show. Markesia and Korey see the process as both technical and artistic. A floor plan provides the structure, but the choices layered on top of it give a home its identity.
Markesia remembers building three homes side by side with the same floor plan. On paper, the bones were identical. But each home developed a different personality through color, finishes and design details. One plan. Three distinct homes.
“The floor plan is the canvas,” Markesia says. “The design is the brushstroke.”
That sense of originality is central to how Komar Luxe defines luxury. For Markesia, luxury is not just price point, square footage or dramatic finishes. It is comfort, quality and the feeling a person has when they walk inside and know the space was built with intention.
It is also durability.
A true luxury home, she believes, should stand the test of time. Markesia and Korey consider not only how a home will look on move-in day, but how it will perform years later, from product selections and building systems to technology incorporated from the beginning.

“We’re construction people at heart,” Korey says. “You’re getting a builder’s eye, a developer’s mindset and a realtor’s market knowledge all in one.”
Walking through a home, the Komar Luxe team is not only noticing visible details. They are looking for structural concerns, repair costs, future resale and whether a property is a smart move. That kind of insight helps clients move forward with more clarity, whether they are searching for the right property or imagining what an existing space could become.
In Smyrna and Vinings, they see a market that fits beautifully with the Komar Luxe philosophy — connected and energetic, while still allowing people to create homes that feel private and peaceful.
One recent project captured that balance, blending traditional farmhouse warmth with contemporary style. It included an open kitchen, dining and living concept, a finished basement, a wine room, a pool and a large outdoor space designed for gathering.
The result was polished, but not cold. Elevated, but still livable.
Looking ahead, Markesia and Korey are especially excited about the company’s next chapter: a retail center currently in development that will include a public-facing Komar Luxe design studio. Once complete, the studio will give people the chance to see materials, touch finishes and imagine what is possible in their own homes.
For Markesia and Korey, that is what the work is really about. Not simply building houses, but helping people create spaces that feel like they were always meant for them.
Not a showroom. Not someone else’s dream.
