Dr. Matthew Smith is the founder and lead dentist at Capitol View Dental. He brings a unique balance of precision, artistry, and empathy to his work. After completing his DDS at Meharry Medical College, the Michigan native opened his own practice in the Capitol View neighborhood to offer elevated, minimally invasive care in a warm, modern environment. He specializes in dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, and smile design, always with an emphasis on honest communication and patient empowerment.
Before becoming the highly sought-after dentist he is today, Dr. Smith’s journey began in a different spotlight—music. He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Classical Guitar and, by January 2013, was working full-time in the music industry, balancing roles in administration, teaching, and performing. All the while, he was completing science prerequisites, driven by a growing passion for dentistry. Even with his love for music, Nashville wasn’t on his map until dental school called him to the city. Since graduating in 2019, Dr. Smith has spent six years refining his craft, caring for patients, and learning from respected mentors. Now, he’s proudly taken on the next step: opening a practice of his own.

“Fear [and] anxiety sometimes stops people from coming to the dentist… the main thing that I always tell my patients when they show up is ‘thank you for coming in for X, Y, Z reason,’” he shares. “I tell [them] we meet them where they are and take them to where they want to go… people are interested in increasing their confidence, and [smiles] are the first thing people see.”

When I ask [new] patients how [they hear about us], it’s so important, because sometimes it's word of mouth, sometimes it's an ad, and sometimes it's from [another] patient… and that's what I have always wanted.”
