Sun Lakes Animal Clinic was opened in 1985 by Dr. Randy Walker. After he passed away suddenly in October 2016, my husband and I purchased the clinic. It was a hard decision, having just gotten married and wanting to start a family, but my clients' pets are dear to my heart and I didn't want to leave the area. To add to the craziness of learning to run a business, we welcomed our first child, a boy, in February of this year. It's been exhausting, but also very rewarding! Dr. Jeannette Molina started out as a relief veterinarian but after a couple of months, she permanently joined our team. Her interests include some of the more alternative/natural therapies to go along with traditional medicine, and she was trained in acupuncture by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society.
WHAT'S YOUR BEST ADVICE FOR PET OWNERS THIS SUMMER?
My fairly obvious advice is to keep your pets cool! If you can't walk barefoot on the pavement, neither can they. The brachycephalic (smush-faced) breeds, such as pugs, Shih Tzus and bulldogs, are prone to overheating much more easily, so be extra careful to keep them cool.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE HOLIDAY?
New Year's Eve has always been my favorite because I enjoy getting together with my family and friends to start the new year—and, it's also my birthday.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR HOBBIES?
I enjoy doing anything outdoors, traveling and watching football. Being from Nebraska, I did a lot of those things growing up and, of course, I'm a huge Husker fan!
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TRAVEL DESTINATION?
Definitely Japan. My husband lived and worked there for eight years and is fluent in Japanese, so it was fun to go to a place that was such a big part of his life before we met. I loved the culture and eating their delicious food!
DO YOU HAVE ANY HIDDEN TALENTS?
I'm not good at cooking but I can bake a killer cheesecake.
