The Miyabi Birchwood Nakiri

Meet Chef Liv at Cattle Shed's workhorse knife

Chef Olivia Hurst's pride and joy is her Miyabi Birchwood Nakiri Knife. It is six and a half inches of pure performance. It takes more than 100 steps and 42 days to make one knife worthy of the Miyabi brand. Each authentic knife is crafted true to Japanese tradition by skilled artisans and forged from premium steels.

"I like this knife because the thin, light handle makes it easy to hold and maneuver when doing detailed knife cuts like julienned vegetables," says Chef Liv, from the kitchen at Cattle Shed Wine and Steak Bar in Alpharetta. "The balanced weight of the blade makes this knife perfect for chopping onions."

Chef Olivia Hurst, a recent winner on Food Network’s Chopped, has worked at several of Atlanta’s top restaurants including Buckhead Life Restaurant Group’s Atlanta Fish Market and Kyma. While at Kyma, the fine-dining Greek restaurant was nominated for several James Beard awards and was featured on Atlanta Eats and in Food and Wine. A self-taught, modern-Southern chef with a worldly view, Hurst hopes to bring people together by creating and maintaining delicious, interesting dishes such as unique charcuterie boards, inspiring small plates and specialty cut steaks that pair well with the eatery’s list of nearly 200 wines. Her ultimate goal is to inspire every guest who walks in Cattle Shed’s doors.

Cattle Shed is an upscale restaurant featuring a collection of seasonal, chef-driven dishes, including premium steak cuts, small plates, and charcuterie boards, along with an immense selection of wines. The restaurant focuses on sourcing only Georgia-grown, fresh, wholesome, flavorful seasonal ingredients, while supporting the local economy. Chef Hurst is committed to working with local farmers and producers that practice sustainable farming and support animal welfare. The restaurant is open for happy hour and dinner seven days a week, as well as weekday lunch and weekend brunch.
