For wildlife artist Jared Knox, creativity and the outdoors have always gone hand in hand. “Growing up hunting and fishing made me naturally want to create the scenes I was seeing—or imagining seeing—out in the woods,” he says. From a young age, his sketchbook served as a second journal, filled with moments inspired by deer in the Georgia forests and the rhythmic sweep of wings overhead.
Today, that instinct to honor wild spaces has evolved into a signature style—rooted in accurate proportions, yet alive with bold, expressive color. “I’ve always been drawn more to expressive art than realism,” Jared explains. “My work isn’t abstract, but it’s not hyper-realistic either. I try to place my art somewhere in between.” That middle ground gives his subjects—often quail in flight, a focused retriever, or a quiet woodland scene—a sense of movement and memory.
His faith also plays a quiet but powerful role in his work. “I believe the Lord is the ultimate artist,” Jared says. “So my artwork is just a small reflection of His creativity.” That perspective shapes not only his purpose, but the reverence and joy that come through in every piece.
Among his most meaningful works is a portrait of his bird dog, Huck, painted from a photo snapped on a dove field in Rome, Georgia. “It’s the first true portrait I’d done of him,” Jared says. “That moment, that setting, it just meant something.” Huck, a field-bred cocker spaniel, continues to inspire with his boundless energy and graceful form—a muse in constant motion.
Based in Vinings and working out of a studio in Smyrna, Jared thrives in the vibrant local arts community. “It’s fantastic,” he says. “I’m just a short drive from my studio, my favorite art suppliers, and even the galleries that feature my work across the Southeast.”
For Jared Knox, art is more than a profession—it’s a way of staying connected to the land, to the Creator, and to the stories that shaped him. Each painting is a memory made visible—a vivid reminder that the wild still lives close to home.
