Williamson County Animal Center (WCAC) opened its new shelter in February, giving local community residents and supporters several new ways to engage that weren't previously possible.
In addition to a new community education room, the center's Book Buddies program aims to benefit both shelter residents and young readers, giving children between 5 and 12 years of age a chance to sharpen their reading skills in a non-judgmental space and to help socialize adoptable cats in their eight free-roaming feline "catios." Orientation attendance is required to take part in the Book Buddies program. Tours also are available for children who collect and deliver donations. Other day-to-day volunteer opportunities also are available.
Williamson County Animal Center is located at 1006 Grigsby Hayes Court in Franklin, near Franklin Christian Academy. The center is typically open to the public Monday through Friday 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
