If you’re of a certain age you probably can remember well your first cell phone.
Mine was a beast, a company-issued “bag phone” that came with a big battery in a vinyl case and a handset bigger than my head.
That piece of equipment gave way within a few years to the ‘flip’ phone and then, in the blink of an eye it seems, we were on to the streamlined blackberries that gave way to the modern smartphone, the iPhones, Google phones and Androids that have become our lifeline of connectivity.
But today they’re far more than just mobile phones.
“We’ve progressed into what we have now, a smartphone that is really a small computer that is realistically faster than most people’s home computers,” says Nathan Joslin, managing partner of Wireless Zone at 2450 Main St.
Along with all that technology comes the question of what to do with that little miracle in your hand when it doesn’t work right.
That’s where Wireless Zone, an authorized Verizon dealer, comes in, Nathan says.
The store, part of a larger franchise of seven Wireless Zone stores, opened here in Glastonbury in 2017 and like the local store, all of the chain’s retail locations are locally owned. Other stores in the franchise are in Groton, New London, Killingly, Putnam, North Windham and Westerly, R.I.
Cell phones and other mobile devices can make the perfect holiday gift and Wireless Zone has a large variety of products to choose from, including the newest must-have smartphones, the iPhone 13 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G.
Besides its smartphones, tablets and iPads, the Glastonbury Wireless Zone store also sells telephone services - from home phone services to internet and jetpack internet services.
Wireless zone also does its own in-house repairs and the store prides itself on providing customized services for its local customers, he adds.
“We take more of a white glove service approach. We’ll help you set up your phone, we’ll even come out to your car and help you set up your Bluetooth service. When you think smartphone or any kind of technology we want you to think of us. We want to be your one-stop shop for all things technology related.”
