"Not too long ago, many people thought Chambers of Commerce groups were mostly businessmen," said Lorilee Cummings. "The Kirkwood-Des Peres Area Chamber of Commerce breaks the stereotype with over 100 women of all ages and business industries. Our goal is to collaborate and elevate each other in our personal and professional lives and throughout our community."
Lorilee is known within the Chamber and throughout the community as a connector and champion of each woman she meets. She founded the Chamber's Women's Entrepreneurial Group in 2015 as a way for women to support and encourage each other. "I started the Women’s Entrepreneurial Group so that women can begin to make connections and become a part of the community in a very welcoming way,” she said.
The Woman’s Entrepreneurial Group has over 50 highly engaged members. “We have so many young professionals who bring vibrance, energy, and enthusiasm to the group and the Chamber,” said Lorilee. “We champion each other and want to see each other succeed.” As the owner of Lorilee Real Estate, Lorilee can share stories about how the Women’s Entrepreneurial Group has helped to grow her business, but she would much rather share stories about how the Women's Entrepreneurial Group has helped other members and the community. “Our group is very involved in helping the Kirkwood School District, K-Now, and other local organizations.”
The group meets for lunch each month at a locally owned restaurant. “Typically, there are 25 to 30 women in attendance. Some women come every month, and other women come when they can. During lunch, we’ll either feature a speaker or engage in professional or personal development activity.” In fact, a monthly professional book club has spun off from the luncheons.
