WORLD CUP MANIA

While it may sound hyperbolic, make no mistake: the World Cup is the most popular sporting event on the planet, and it’s coming to DFW

Beginning in June, Dallas is scheduled to host nine matches, more than any other U.S. city. The matches are scheduled for June 17, 22, 25, 27, and 30, July 3, 6, and 14. The final match is scheduled for July 19 in New Jersey.

For a city famous for its own brand of football, welcoming the world’s most-watched tournament marks an exciting new chapter. AT&T Stadium in Arlington will host five group stage matches, two Round of 32 games, one Round of 16 showdown, and a semifinal. The stadium will be one of the World Cup’s grandest stages.

Across DFW, thousands will be welcomed with open arms. Hotels, restaurants, and entertainment districts are preparing for an unprecedented surge. Advocates expect the economic impact to potentially inject over half a billion dollars into DFW.

Dallas and Fort Worth will host festivals where cultures converge, while the cities line streets with international flags, creating a global crossroads.

In addition to the games in Arlington, Dallas will host the International Broadcast Center at downtown’s Convention Center and a celebration at Fair Park.

Youth leagues have flourished here for decades, as well as women’s and men’s professional teams, making the event feel like the culmination of a movement generations in the making.

Dallas area matches include Group F, Netherlands vs. Japan on June 14 at 3 p.m.; England vs. Croatia on June 17 at 3 p.m.; Group J, Argentina vs. Austria on June 22 at 12 p.m.; Group F, Japan vs. the winner of UKR/SWE/POL/ALB on June 25 at 6 p.m., and Group J, Jordan vs. Argentina on June 27 at 9 p.m.

AT&T Stadium is scheduled to host matches in the knockout stage: Round of 32 on Tuesday, June 30; Round of 32 on July 3; Round of 16 on July 6; and a Semifinal on July 14.

When the world turns to Dallas, it will be a moment when the global game and Texas pride meet on one spectacular stage.
