The first thing people say when they think about Charles Chandler is that he was the funniest storyteller they had ever known. No one could tell a story better. This consummate, gracious, and well-dressed Southern gentleman, who Memphis lost on May 28, 2022, loved to tell on himself as much as describe other topics, always delivered with his soft-spoken, Tennessee drawl. His charming demeanor and small-town upbringing belied his highly sophisticated, worldly sensibility and his enormous creative talent as an artist and advertising pioneer. For decades his fashion illustrations filled the pages of magazines and newspapers, but it was his kind and gentle nature that won the hearts of all who knew him. A legendary resident of the art-deco Kimbrough Towers, he welcomed guests into his home, a veritable museum of fine art, antiques and collectables from all over the world. He loved beautiful things, and people loved him.
