Dunwoody, Georgia, is so much more than just a city located near Atlanta. Located just 10 miles north of Georgia's capital city, Dunwoody has its own identity. In fact, Dunwoody wasn't recognized as a city until 2008, so last year they celebrated their 10-year anniversary and how much the city has grown. Next, head over to Dunwoody Nature Center. Stretching across a sprawling 35 acres, Dunwoody Park offers year-round recreation. The nature center offers a preserve with hiking trails, a creek and a playground in the woods. See a real Native American teepee up close, take a stroll through the treehouse and settle down for some relaxation in the hammock garden.
Dunwoody's theme, EVERYTHING WILL BE OK, has an interesting story. At the opening of Spruill Gallery’s 2009 Emerging Artists exhibit, local artist Jason Kofke erected a simple yet powerful piece on the side of an old smokehouse on the grounds of the Spruill Gallery. The plain white panel read “EVERYTHING WILL BE OK” in handwritten black type at the corner of a busy intersection. The sign became an instant sensation and remained for months, compelling passersby to stop and contemplate the words. Periodically, the sign was replaced with other artistic work, but an outcry from the public called for the sign’s permanent return. Although the sign currently displayed on the Spruill Gallery grounds is a replica, its message has not faltered nor has the response. Although the mural is visible from the street, Dunwoody encourages visitors to stop by, see it up close and take pictures.
Stop 1: Treetop Quest at Brook Run Park
At heights up to 55 feet above the ground and zip lines stretching more than 200 feet, Treetop Quest boasts ample adrenaline spikes for the thrill-seekers. And to reassure even the most apprehensive in your group, there is specialized preliminary training from experienced guides. It's the perfect family-friendly adventure for all ages with several courses that increase in difficulty level if you're up for it!
Stop 2: Alon's Bakery & Market
Alon's emulates the authentic feel of a European market. It's known for its made-from-scratch selection of baked breads, style cakes, homemade pastries, gourmet sandwiches, freshly prepared foods, fine chocolates and more. Can you say delicious? Stop here for an afternoon sweet treat like their freshly made macaroons in assorted flavors!
Stop 3: Novo Cucina
Italian culinary tradition marries innovative and relaxed dining in this enjoyable local eatery. Novo's got a chic vibe with its state-of-the-art open kitchen and chef counter seating. Ingredients drive the menu with fresh Italian and locally sourced food options, including artisanal pizzas, handmade pastas, fresh salads and original appetizers. The wine, specialty cocktail and Italian and local craft beer selections are not to be outdone. Diners finish their meal with the area's only gelato artigianale, made by hand and spun in-house every day.
