Various yoga techniques and styles await clients of Studio YOU Yoga in Greenwood, including combinations of yoga sculpt, aroma restorative/yin, Vinyasa flow, slow flow, deep stretch or heated core and HOTTT power yoga—all designed to enable practice and growth.
"Some people want stretch-only classes, some just want to relax, and some really want to move. Others are seeking relief or assistance to recover from injuries," explains Chia Chu, Studio YOU Yoga instructor and owner for the past seven years.
Others seek fresh experiences with yoga, such as the studio's upcoming brand-new workshop on July 20 titled 'Sound Acu Nidra' from 1-2:30 p.m. Chia says yoga Nidra is a powerful meditation technique producing a state of consciousness between waking and sleep. Acupuncture is a 3,000-year-old holistic healing system rooted in the principles of East Asian Medicine to improve circulation, decrease inflammation and calm the nervous system. Sound therapy is an ancient practice using different instruments and frequencies to help shift and harmonize the mind, body and spirit. "This is going to be a special one that people will love," she adds.
Other special events this month are:
- July 20: Yoga In the Park/Greenwood Amphitheater, 10-11 a.m.
- July 27: Goat Yoga Series: Bah Bah, Blooms and Yoga at Dollie's Farm, 5-6 p.m.
- July 31: Sip & Stretch at Barn at Bay Horse Inn, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
"Our yoga with goats is one of our most popular therapeutic sessions," Chia shares.
She extends a 21-day 'Intro Offer' for $30 through which she says new clients can try and participate in as many classes with their 15 instructors as they'd like to determine which types are their best match. Because each instructor leads yoga a little differently, she says it's helpful to get this broader exposure.
"If anyone is unsure or a bit nervous about yoga, I recommend they take one or two private lessons with us. After building that confidence, students are ready to join the group classes," Chia explains.
For beginners, the studio's team strives to understand what each person's goals are. Chia says benefits from yoga include improved strength, flexibility, breathing, mental wellness while also calming a body's nervous system through anxiety and stress management. The studio's instructors say they witness clients practicing how to insert soothing pauses into extremely busy lives, as reminders of how much everyone is helped by doing so.
"We stand out because we make people feel welcomed and comfortable. Our teachers are very knowledgeable and friendly, not intimidating. And, we also offer massages," states Chia.
