Proper hygiene is important for children's health and self-esteem. At Refresh Frisco, the mission is to ensure that every child in the local community has access to personal hygiene items, such as tooth paste, deordorant, shampoo, soap, shaving cream, personal care products, sunscreen, lip balm and hand sanitizer.
"We can only accomplish this mission with the help of our community," says Elizabeth Watkins, founder and president of the nonprofit, who says donations go toward supplying supply a quarterly Refresh Pack of hygiene items to 1,400 children in need within the Frisco Independent School District.
"So many kids need these items, every time we finish a distribution, we get wiped out. Donations have been low, since the pandemic, and we're having to buy many of the supplies," Liz says.
Liz, a Frisco resident, launched Refresh Frisco during May 2019, after seeing the need through her years of parent volunteer work at schools. She says she's always been inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. comment: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”
The group also receives grants and donations from community partners and other organizations, such as The Rotary Club of Frisco, NCL-Frisco Chapter, Lions Heart teen leaders and school-based teams, as well as local people, such as Rx Smile Frisco Orthodontics, scout troops and Frisco firefighters.
