Join us at Art with a Purpose. The art show will feature work from local artists Mary Hanson, Jessie Cargas of Well Made Art Works, and Steve Palmer of Sugarcreek Woodworks & Design. All the art will be raffled off, and 100% of the proceeds from the show benefit Kirk Care and Circle of Concern.

When the pandemic hit last year, Mary Hanson wanted to create a bright side to the COVID-19 crisis. So, she picked up a brush and started painting. Since last March, Mary has completed 22 paintings. Mary stated, "I wanted my paintings to have a purpose. I wanted to create something that would benefit our community and our local non-profits." Art with a Purpose features over a dozen of Mary's paintings. Every picture has a story. Here are six of Mary's favorites that will be raffled off at the show.

1. Rainbow Forest

Inspired by a cover of Missouri Conservationist magazine, Mary mimicked the bright colors of the trees to create this vibrant work of art. "I wanted to capture the feeling of a rainbow in a forest."

2. Music Everywhere

"I was in a jazzy mood that day, and I wanted to paint something fun," laughed Mary. "I love all kinds of music and all kinds of instruments."

3. Waterfall

"I wanted to paint a colorful waterfall that was beautiful and comforting," Mary said. The inspiration from this waterfall came to Mary while she was at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. "I wanted to recreate that sense of peace and serenity."

4. Barn in Snow

"I wanted to paint a picture of an old barn in winter, so I asked my friend to send me a picture of her barn," Mary said. "That was my inspiration. I added a serene, snowy setting and put a red Cardinal on the branch."

5. Tuscany

"This one is reminiscent of our trip to Tuscany. It reminds me of the wineries we visited with all the stone buildings," said Mary. You can almost feel the Italian breeze blowing through the open window

6. So In Love With Blue

"This painting was just screaming for a white tree to be placed against all of the blues," smiled Mary. "I want to paint another picture like this one and add some limey greens."
