The Monday Club of Webster Groves

"Inclusive, Educational, Entertaining and of Service to the Community"

On a quiet corner at Cedar and Maple avenues in Webster Groves sits the headquarters of the oldest women’s organization in Missouri—and west of the Mississippi. The Monday Club of Webster Groves is a nonprofit group dedicated to serving the community by promoting art, drama, education, home and garden and philanthropy, according to its official mission statement.

The Monday Club of Webster Groves was established in 1887 and has a proud history, including starting a library for Webster in 1897, the formation of the Webster Groves Chapter of the Red Cross during World War I and participation in the Women’s Suffrage movement in 1916.

The Monday Club is focused on furthering education through its Student Booster Program in which club volunteers help tutor and mentor children every week. Other philanthropic efforts include an annual Christmas Giving Tree, in which monetary donations are given to charities like St. Martha’s Hall, Edgewood Children’s Center and Women’s Place.

Members enjoy a variety of activities such as art exhibits, plays, luncheons with keynote speakers, afternoon tea, dance lessons, dominoes and bridge, and more.

“I joined because the women and the activities are interesting and stimulating,” says Peg Chulick, a member for the past 14 years.

The Monday Club was designated a City Historic Landmark in 2016 by the Webster Groves City Council and is recognized as a fine example of Mediterranean-style architecture in the Midwest.

This year’s charity is a Chair Yoga Fundraiser on Sunday, May 1. Proceeds benefit the Ukraine. To learn more about the Monday Club, visit TheMondayClubOfWebsterGroves.com.
