St. George's Newest Hot Spot

A French Patisserie Dazzles and Delights

Where does one buy the best donuts in town? How about the best pizza? The freshest salads and sandwiches? And what about baguettes?

Farmstead Bakery, a bakery in French style, known as a patisserie, is located on the street level of Joule Plaza Apartments, and has become one of the most popular eateries in downtown St. George. The bakery offers these items and more. Also think croissants and Danish pastries and cakes that seem like they were made in heaven.

Proprietor, Chris Connors likes to tell the story of Farmstead’s conception. One evening, about ten years ago, he, Chris Herrin and Li Hsun Sun, were having a conversation about food, sharing their favorite recipes and restaurants in Las Vegas. Each was a restaurant owner and considered themselves connoisseurs of the best cuisine. Each was passionate about feeding people. Connors says, “It was in this small moment of breaking bread that Farmstead was born.”

They had visited the St. George area and loved the environment, the genuineness of the people, the feeling of community.

Connors is grateful for the team that has come on board since opening in March. Chef Mary Cech has been recognized as one of the “Top Ten Pastry Chefs in America” by Chocolatier magazine, named “Pastry Chef of the Year” by Chefs in America and has written two cookbooks. Ben Garcia from Wynn Hotels is an artisan in his own right.

Customers refer to the Farmstead staff as some of the nicest they have met, not just by their smiles, but by their attentive service. The food preparation areas are immaculate, and when things are busy with staff serving customers, Connors or Herrin may be seen pushing a broom.

Says Connors, “Our location is the perfect place to stop and have a delicious bite on your way to Zion National Park, Bryce National Park or Snow Canyon State Park.” He adds, “We invite you to ‘come break bread’ with us.”

Farmstead’s Hours of Operation: Monday—Saturday 7 a.m.—7 p.m.; Sunday 7 a.m.—3 p.m.
