A Beacon of Creativity: Marco Island Center for the Arts Celebrates 55 Years
Nestled at 1010 Winterberry Drive, the Marco Island Center for the Arts (MICA) has served as a dynamic hub for artistic expression for over five decades. As they approach their 55th anniversary in 2025, MICA remains steadfast in its commitment to celebrating the rich artistic heritage of Marco Island and Southwest Florida.
MICA fosters a vibrant community environment by offering a diverse range of artistic experiences. Beyond captivating visual art exhibitions, the Center hosts engaging musical performances, thought-provoking speakers, intriguing films, and stimulating events for all ages. An essential part of their mission lies in fostering artistic passion, with adult art education programs running alongside free children's workshops.
For theatre enthusiasts, the Arts Center Theater (ACT), situated in Marco Town Center, offers a vibrant showcase of community theater productions alongside professional comedy shows and other live entertainment.
The upcoming 2024-2025 season promises to be a captivating one. ACT will delight audiences with back-to-back Neil Simon classics, "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" and "The Odd Couple." MICA will also partner with the esteemed Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas in Miami for a series of collaborative art exhibitions.
Music lovers rejoice! The popular Musical Interludes series will return, featuring perennial favorites like the Peter and Will Anderson Jazz Trio and Ben Rosenblum Jazz. Year-round adult art classes ensure continuous learning opportunities, while a comprehensive lineup of summer programs keeps children engaged in artistic exploration.
Hyla Crane, the Center's Executive Director, has spearheaded a decade of growth alongside her dedicated team. A seasoned arts professional, Crane previously held leadership positions at prestigious entities such as The Elm Shakespeare Company, The Long Wharf Theatre, The Yale Repertory Theater, The Westport Country Playhouse, and Stepping Stones Museum for Children. Her experience and enthusiasm, coupled with the unwavering support of the Board of Directors and volunteers, breathe life into the diverse theater and art offerings at both MICA and ACT.
