When advanced nurse practitioner, Courtney Allen, of Brentwood, founded her own cosmetic dermatology clinic, she says she had a very specific idea about how she wanted it to look and feel. With the full support of her husband who helped build the space out, she was ready to bring her vision to life.
The first thing she did was hire an upscale interior designer, Sam Cram, to create a luxurious and serene space that is light, airy and clean. The second thing she did was staff it with warm and competent nurse practitioners to ensure all patients feel welcomed, well-educated and encouraged.
“At Canvas Skin, the people here play a huge role in making it feel inclusive,” she says. “We always have your best interest at heart, giving you a safe space to look and feel your best. We're going to give our clients a luxurious experience, but we're also going to connect with you along the way.”
Connecting with people is the most important value to Courtney. When she or one of her other nurse practitioners first meet clients, they’re going to make them feel seen. “You are uniquely you, and no one else is you, and that is truly special,” she says. “By talking and getting to know our clients personally, we meet them where they are in life, and make them feel good inside first.”
Hence what Canvas’s brand is based upon: “Where beauty starts from the inside out.”
She adds, “What truly keeps people coming back to us is that we help them feel better on the inside, and build strong confidence by enhancing their features on the outside. They're not just walking in for a quick treatment. Canvas is a lot deeper than that.”
Once a client feels comfortable, the assessment begins. “We do a full facial analysis, where we assess your head, neck and skin, detailing every area where you could use neurotoxin and/or filler,” says Courtney. “Our medical-grade skin care line is also a form of treatment. We provide clients with a comprehensive treatment plan that does not have to be fulfilled that day, but is documented so they are well taken care of during their entire experience at Canvas Skin.”
Canvas Skin offers a myriad of services, so there’s something for every aesthetic need. In addition to neurotoxins such as Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau and various fillers, they also offer chemical peels, laser treatments and microneedling facials.
“Our most popular treatment is injecting a neurotoxin,” she says. “It's probably the most cost effective and you get the most extravagant long-term results. We have muscles all over our face and when our muscles contract our skin overlaps and we get fine lines and wrinkles. By injecting those muscles, they relax, and then the skin doesn't overlap and we don't have those lines. This results in a more youthful appearance.”
The number two most requested treatment is fillers. “As we age and have more birthdays, we lose volume in our face,” says Courtney. “It's a natural and normal process to lose collagen and fat in the face as we are privileged to age. To restore that volume loss, we inject filler, which restores volume. There are tons of different types of fillers, and we choose one based on the person's medical history and the area on the face we're treating.”
In addition to these and other treatments, Courtney recommends clients follow a good skin care regimen to get the best results. “You're going to want to be on a retinol because it produces collagen,” she says. “It's the number one anti-aging product.”
Canvas Skin’s own skin care line makes it seamless for clients to find what they need. She says, “Our two top products are the Canvas Skin Revival Retinol Serum and our Ela Radiance Brightening Pads, which contain kojic acid and arbutin. These pads decrease pigment on the face and brighten it overall. It's our glow pad.”
The ultimate goal for clients, she states, is to appear refreshed and youthful, and most of all to feel their best. “That’s my ultimate goal,” says Courtney. “To make people feel beautiful on the inside and out.”
