Inside the Heart & Heritage of Best Furniture Gallery

At Best Furniture Gallery, they take their name seriously. The name of this family-owned business means more than the highest quality furniture—it’s also about heritage. Charlie and Eva Best opened the store in 1941 with a dream that now blooms under the ownership of husband-and-wife team Carolynn and Craig Reis. Since 2002, the Reis’ have grown the 85-year legacy to an 18,000-square-foot showroom that lives up to its namesake and then some.

An anchor on a prominent bend in the center of Ft. Thomas, Best Furniture Gallery is a deceiving delight for shoppers. What appears to be a typical storefront opens into a sprawling surprise, with room after room of charming living room, dining room and bedroom vignettes to see and touch. Try various cushions, styles and sizes and feel fabrics and handles before you commit.

Theirs is not a rehearsed welcome or a sales strategy. It’s hospitality at its finest. There’s no hovering, no pressure, no clipboard in hand; just a warm hello and the welcoming sounds of the Reis’ pups from the office. Hands-on managers Carolynn and Craig are usually right there, greeting guests, answering questions, fluffing pillows, setting up deliveries and chatting like neighbors.

“We’re one store. We’re not a chain,” says Craig. “Carolynn and I are mostly always here.”

That presence is intentional. For the Reises, furniture has never been transactional, it’s personal. Relationships are of the utmost importance to this caring couple.

“We take pride in carrying on the tradition of quality, service and caring. We’re not only about the product we sell the customer, but the customer themselves,” Craig explains.

Families who furnished their first homes with Best now return with their grown kids. Grandparents bring in grandchildren who once colored at the design counter. Some customers have been walking through these doors for decades.

“In our business, you naturally develop relationships,” Carolynn says. “Over the years, we’ve enjoyed helping generations of families. That’s one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.”

Carolynn and Craig’s standards are just as personal. They've carefully curated the brands and quality you can trust.

“We would never sell a piece of furniture to someone that we wouldn’t personally have in our own home,” Craig says. “If we wouldn’t live with it, we’re not going to ask our customers to.”

Carolynn adds, “Their comfort and trust matter to us.”

That means offering handcrafted pieces that pass the Reis test and walking away from trendy items that look good but won’t last. It means focusing less on flashy sales and more on how something will feel five or ten years from now.

“Quality is always first for us,” Craig proclaims. “Everything else flows from that.”

And if something does go wrong?

“We take service seriously,” Carolynn says. “If there’s an issue, we’re going to bend over backwards to make it right.”

Best Furniture Gallery offers the kind of accountability you don’t see much anymore. A real person answers the phone. Problems get handled directly and quickly. Customers are not an order number, but friends.

In a world of big-box speed and one-click convenience, Craig and Carolynn are choosing a steadier, human approach. Relax, take your time and picture the pieces in your own living room, your own kitchen, your own life. At Best Furniture Gallery, it’s never just about the furniture. It’s about creating a place you can truly call home.
