1. What is the best way to taste bourbon? When tasting a bourbon, I use a proper tasting glass and drink it neat the first time I try it. I'll actively think about the flavors and sensations, where they hit on the tongue, and how long the finish lasts on the palate, all the while looking at the color and viscosity.

2. Do you recommend using a large piece of ice? Why or why not?

A large cube is best. The bigger the cube, the less surface area to interact with the bourbon, causing slower dilution.

3. Is there a particular glass that you recommend?

Glencairn Whisky Glasses were designed to taste whisky specifically and do the best job when tasting bourbon and capturing its aromas.

4. What are your current favorite bourbon brands?

They are always changing depending on availability, but my current favorites are Michter's, Henry McKenna 10yr, and Joseph Magnus.

5. The Four Seasons Houston offers premium spirits at Bayou & Bottle and Bandista

Bayou & Bottle offers flavorful menu curated by chef Richard Sandoval and over 200 whiskies . Every bartender is a Certified Bourbon Steward, allowing for a knowledgeable and elevated experience. Guests can enjoy vintage barware and personalized bourbon lockers.

Those looking for a more intimate experience can check out Bandista, a modern-day speakeasy. Designed to look like a 1920s lounge, Bandista offers innovative cocktails and rare spirits from around the world.

"As a native Texan, I lean toward pairing bourbon with great barbeque, but I also love sipping on bourbon with a bar of chocolate or a chocolate dessert."
