Randy Page has been a chef for more than 35 years. In 2010, he began experimenting with chocolate as a hobby and to flex his culinary muscles. Making artisan chocolates was something special he did for friends and family as gifts for the holidays but quickly evolved into an online business and luxury brand. In 2019, he opened Cricket & Fig Chocolate dessert café in London Square.

Being a Chef who has traveled extensively and appreciates the finer things in life, he sought out incredibly high-quality, money-is-no-object ingredients for his chocolates. This ‘only the best’ commitment is found in every aspect of his food and coffee. For example, Page’s favorite chocolate is the pistachio truffle, a milk chocolate shell filled with a ganache made with imported 100 percent Sicilian pistachio paste.

He says, “Although expensive and sometimes hard to get, I think it’s worth it for the distinctive, intense flavor. Most domestic pistachio pastes are made with a combination of pistachios, sweet almonds and a lot of sugar. Our pistachio truffle is like none you have ever tried and is simply magical. I just love it!” 

Page chose European-roasted Illy® coffee and espresso to complement his treats. Illy® coffee has been in business for more than 80 years and carefully selects, blends, and roasts nine distinct single origin Arabica coffees selected from the top 1 percent of coffee grown worldwide. He sought out Illy® coffee because of its wide and distinctive aromatic profile containing aromas of chocolate, caramel, toasted bread and nuts with fruity, flowery and smoky notes.

Decadent café choices such as Chocolate Truffle Cake, Chocolate Pot de Crème, Bittersweet Brownies and fresh baked Chocolate Chip Cookies are always on the menu. The sophisticated Crème Brulee and whimsical Toast-Your-Own S’mores for Two is perfect to share with a friend. For a savory twist, the bacon-cheddar scones are hard to resist.

Other savory items gracing the menu are Heat-at-Home Meals. Born from the recent COVID-19 pandemic, Page used the situation as a springboard to offer simple, affordable meals for families. Items such as King Ranch Chicken Casserole, Bacon/Onion/Tomato Mac 'n Cheese, and Beef & Sausage Lasagna have become so popular, he may keep these comfort foods as permanent menu items.

Artisan Chocolates and Pâte de Fruit

Cricket & Fig Chocolate’s display case is filled with beautiful hand painted truffles, carefully crafted chocolates, and colorful jellies. Customer favorites include Orange Crème, Strawberry, Honey Lavender and Salted Caramels. Exotic selections like Asian Spice, Black Sesame and Mexican Chocolate tempt the taste buds with thrilling combinations usually found in savory foods but are sweet and delicious.

Page recommends trying the Cacao Truffle, which is matched with layers of dark truffle filling and a jelly made from the juice of the cocoa pod. Or the Lemongrass Ginger Truffle, one of Page’s favorites, which boasts earthy lemongrass and subtle ginger flavors.

Pâte de Fruit, or jellies, are tart and sweet gems made with 100% pure fruit juices or purees. Cricket & Fig jellies such as Concord Grape, Blood Orange, and Cherry Limeade offer an intense flavor that lingers on the palate. For a real treat, try the Raspberry & Roses jelly made from raspberry puree imported from France and a kiss of rosewater, giving it an undeniable floral depth.

Cricket & Fig Chocolate gift boxes are available and are custom made on site. Gift baskets of chocolates and jellies, Illy® coffee canisters and jars of homemade Salted Caramel, Marshmallow Crème and Fudge Sauce are also available. Fresh, special occasion cakes are made to order with 24-48 hours’ notice.
