Musician Nick Adamo’s inspiration came at a Blink 182 and Green Day concert at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. After the show, this 5th grader dashed home and announced that he needed a Fender Stratocaster guitar, he was the first person in his family to play.
Now a full-time singer-songwriter/guitar-player, Nick describes his style as “soft rock” or “yacht rock”, on the spectrum of beachy surf, 1970’s chilled sounds influenced by The Doobie Brothers, The Eagles and Harry Nilsson. He tells me ‘I would have loved to have met, George Harrison, to be able to have music as a common point of reference, and to talk about other disciplines, could be quite fascinating”
Nick attends other gigs regularly but prioritizes his time for writing and working on his own material. “My songs are about people I know and feelings that are familiar to everyone, I try to pull from experience, and really make the emotions obvious through the music, there’s some autobiographical stuff in there, but also stories which help express that feeling so much clearer,” he tells me. After suffering a weightlifting accident, which needed major, time-sensitive surgery, he became connected to The Musician Treatment Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded by Dr Alton Barron. The foundation helps professional musicians get access to orthopedic care for upper limb injuries, which prevent them from playing their instruments. Nick organized a benefit concert for them after his recovery and is still greatly involved.
