Good bones are important in any home. They are just as important to the heart of Urban
Exteriors’ business. Jennifer and John Hess, the husband-and-wife duo at the core of the company, are proving that traditional, honest values will never go out of style. “We like to do business the
old-fashioned way. If we say we're going to do something, we do it,” John says.

Jennifer and John met over 20 years ago while at the first roofing company where they both worked.  About 13 years ago, they decided to try their own hand at running a client- and employee-centric
roofing business. Needless to say, that decision paid off, wonderfully. Over 15,000 projects later, they
continue treating every homeowner as part of their family. John comes out to at least 80-percent of
projects, and both he and Jennifer ensure that every homeowner is heard.

Roofing, siding, gutters and decks are among the services Urban Exteriors provides to the whole
Front Range. As a full-service company, they offer everything from roof and deck installation
and repair to inspection and maintenance. If you’re looking into siding, you can pick from
stucco, brick, James Hardie board, vinyl, and everything in between. For decks, they offer real wood options like Brazilian hardwood and redwood, as well as Trex composite decks if you’re seeking something low-maintenance.

Their gutter and downspout services are also full range, and they offer a choice of aluminum,
steel, and copper. If you’re looking for style and design guidance during the process, they are happy to refer and work with a colorist and architect, allowing homeowners to keep up with the times and trends of home design.

Urban Exteriors offers another especially valuable service for the local area: insurance claim
assistance. In fact, that’s how they got started. Hail storms are all too common in Colorado, and
they can bring unfortunate damage to your home. Urban’s sales team consists of prior insurance
adjusters trained in identifying qualifying damage. Between the two of them, John and Jennifer
have 46 years of experience with insurance claims. Having experienced damage from three hail
storms themselves they have a unique understanding of the homeowner’s perspective and the
qualifications to help.

Communication is critical in their process. “They call us any hour of the day or night, chances are, we're answering that phone. We understand the importance of good communication,” John says. Putting the homeowner first means hearing exactly what they need and being completely transparent throughout the entire project. They commit to doing the job the right way the first time. “We’re not going to put a Band-aid on something that needs to be taken care of,” Jennifer explains. “We want to fix it the right way,” she adds.

The company is family-run, and they treat every client and member of their team as part of that
family. “One of our guys is having shoulder surgery, and we’re already trying to figure out how
to get him dinner and send him flowers,” Jennifer says. Their dedication to quality and good,
old-fashioned values has inspired a sense of loyalty and care among the entire Urban Exteriors
family, allowing them to maintain the same roofing, deck, and siding crews for nearly a decade.

Urban Exteriors extends that same care to the entire Front Range community and beyond through
work with both global and local non-profit organizations. “We love our partnership with Habitat
for Humanity. We've donated goods and services to them for about three years now,” John says.
They also work with Denver-based Brothers Redevelopment, a non-profit committed to
providing accessible housing to the local low-income, elderly, and disabled communities.

John and Jennifer have a very personal connection to one of the organizations they work with regularly. Having a son with Type 1 Diabetes, they are committed to donating to the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation, and The Children's Diabetes Foundation is yet another local non-profit
in which they are involved.

To Urban Exteriors, getting to make lives a little bit better is the best part of the business. “You
can see how it touches homeowners where sometimes they'll get their most important thing done,
that insurance claim, and end up with enough money to buy groceries for the month at the of it,
too. It's just very gratifying,” John says.
